- Stray Zoids
- Introduction
Stray Zoids are those who've gone missing from the army, either because of their pilots dying, being runaways, or being abandoned. Unlike traditional Wild Zoids they're still fully mechanized combat units, but without human intervention they're doomed to slowly degrade over time.
- Notable Facts
- Bang Freiheit noted in the Chaotic Century anime that it's unusual for stray Zoids to fire on people. It's unclear if this is a personality trait without pilot intervention or if it's because the weapons break down over time. Perhaps both.
- Zoids actually do require a lot of resources to function outside of the core. While the core is their life source, the body itself uses so many resources, including batteries, oils, lubricants, etc. This is why they break down without human intervention. Some stray Zoids supplement these needs by attacking normal Zoids to acquire those resources, gaining some of the resources.
- Noted Cases of Stray Zoids
- Bang Freiheit's Shield Liger in the Chaotic Century anime was abandoned in the Elemia Desert. When Zoids die, they lose all color, turning to stone. This Shield Liger, however, still retained its full color, implying that it could've been a stray Zoid that reached that inevitable break down point, but was still hanging on to life. It was restored to full health by Bang's Organoid, Sieg.
- The white Gordos in the Chaotic Century anime was also a stray Zoid. Its master had abandoned the base along with the rest of the Republican soldiers stationed there 50 years ago, and because of the Gordos' injured leg, it was left behind.
- Leon Toros in the Zoids New Century /ZERO anime discovered his red Blade Liger roaming alone in the valley of heroes. The Zoid seemed to be in full working condition, and he adopted it as his combat Zoid.
