Shield Liger is a Zoid of the Republican Army. Unlike most others, the Shield Liger is rarely seen outside of military use, with only a few abandoned when the war ended. At the beginning of the series, it is boasted to be the fastest Zoid of the Republic. The standard issue for the Helic Republic is white with a blue undertone, but older scheme Ligers (blue like Van's) are often used in combat as well.

Van's Shield Liger

    Many years before Van became his pilot the Shield Liger was a member of the Republican Army, but was left behind when the base was abandoned. As the series begins, the Shield Liger is brought back to life by the Organoid Zeke, and begins his journey as Van's partner Zoid. Later it is revealed that the Liger was abandoned 20 years before the series began.

    For the first part of the series, Van's Shield Liger is noted to be exceptionally weaker without Zeke. While it is mentioned that an Organoid can boost a Zoid's combat abilities by a considerable amount, the Zoid lacks strength even for basic Army standards. This is assumed to be because of the Zoid's age, and a weakened Core from living for years in the desert, damaged. Even with an Organoid's ability to repair damages, it is possible that the Core was simply unable to sustain the power that the Energy Shield and weaponry required of it, until many fusions with Zeke thereafter.

    It is also notable that the Shield Liger's missile systems have shown to come online and present the firing option automatically when an enemy is approaching.

While the Shield Liger doesn't frequently act on its own, it has been seen following Van and the others without the fusion of Zeke. Even if it sat there like an idgit when they were being attacked.
