- Introduction

The Black Rhimos stands out among medium-scale Zoids for its heavy armor, referred to as a smaller version of the Red Horn. It sports a variety of equipment and recon capabilities that give it versatility on the battlefield. [1]

- Military History

ZAC 2046, Rollout

The Black Rhimos launched during the reign of the original Death Saurers. It was used for hunting down the remaining troops of the Helic Republic.

ZAC 2100, July, The Empire's Retreat

As the Western Continent War was nearing its end, the Helic Republic had withdrawn to their last remaining fortress, Rob Base. They were receiving heavy reinforcements, and the Empire needed to strike before they could finish reorganizing. For this task, the Black Rhimos was called in from their home continent of Nyx. Unfortunately, by the time they arrived, the Empire had already begun their retreat.

After their failed attempt to destroy Rob Base, the Imperial Army fled in two different directions, aiming for their defensive lines. The southern forces aimed to cross Hesperides Lake, with the intent of destroying the bridge over the lake. This would stop the Republic's pursuit. Luckily for them, the Geno Breaker arrived in time to save the bulk of their forces. The few Republican units who were able to pursue them were ambushed by Black Rhimos, putting a quick end to their pursuit.

ZAC 2100, September, Total Destruction

When the Empire heard that the Helic Republic was moving towards Nixie Base with a huge force, including Ultra Saurus the Destroyer, they began organizing their units to meet them head on. Though their first group consisted of 5,000 Zoids, including Iron Kong SS, Black Rhimos, Red Horns, Molga Cannory, and Rev Raptors, the entire force was almost completely destroyed by the shells from the Destroyer, even at a distance of 100 kilometers.

- Equipment Information

- 2-Barrelled Shock Cannon

2-Barrelled Shock Cannon: 2連装衝撃砲×1

The 2-Barrelled Shock Cannon is installed onto the chest. If it matches other shock cannons in the series, it fires two simultaneous shots. The types of rounds are not clarified.

- Close Combat Beam Gun x2

Close Combat Beam Gun x2: 接近戦用ビーム砲×2

A Close-Combat Beam Gun is attached to each side of the head. They fire energy-based rounds intended for close-range combat. The attachment allows them to rotate up and down. This equipment is mentioned on the OJR Box.

- Exhaust Ports

Exhaust Ports: 排気口

An exhaust port is installed to the back of each foot. These are often excluded from the official stats, but were mentioned on the OJR Box. The type of exhaust is not clarified.

- Forward Surveillance Radar

Forward Surveillance Radar: 前方監視レーダー

In reference to the natural animal, the Rhimos contains two Forward Surveillance Radars, referring to the forward-facing ears on its head. Each radar can rotate forwards and backwards independently. Official Fan Book 2 varies, indicating the second (smaller) horn as the radar.

- Guided Anti-Air Missile x2

Guided Anti-Air Missile x2: 誘導対空ミサイル×2

Two Guided Anti-Air Missiles are attached to the lower back, beneath the radar. Their attachment allows them to rotate up and down, taking more accurate aim at enemies in the air.

- Large-Bore Electromagnetic Cannons

Large-Scale Electromagnetic Cannons: 大型電磁砲×2

These large cannons serve as the Black Rhimos' primary weapon, firing powerful electromagnetic shockwaves. Each gun is attached to a hinge joint on the side, which allows the gun to lean outwards, but also to adjust its position vertically by folding into a lower position.

- Omni-directional Radar

Omni-directional Radar:ÿfo?¦ color="aaaaaa">全方位レーダー

The Omni-Directional Radar is installed to the lower back. Though its name infers that it can move, not much information is given about this item.

- Reconnaissance Vehicle

Omni-directional Radar: 偵察用ビークル×1

The black armor plate above the shoulders rotates backwards, revealing a reconnaissance vehicle. This vehicle can operate independently of the Zoid, flying with a propeller located on each corner, similar to a drone. This allows the secondary pilot to run recon and search out enemy units. When the vehicle is stored inside the back, the secondary pilot instead acts as a gunner, controlling the Beam Guns and Missiles. [2]

- Super-Hard Assault Combat Drill

Super-Hard Assault Combat Drill: 突撃戦用超硬度ドリル×1

The Combat Drill on the horn is a dangerous weapon true to the rhinoceros theme. This weapon spins at rapid speeds, allowing the Rhimos to not just damage enemy Zoids, but also to break through enemy walls during a siege, allowing allies to overwhelm enemies on their own terf.

- Notes

1. The stats are based on Official Fan Book 2, but as Black Rhimos was a white box Zoid in Japan, the weapons list is based on the OJR. I opted for this because the kit obviously still has weapons that don't get listed in the OFB2 stats, such as the guns on the face. I'll make note of what doesn't get listed in OFB2, though. Other information, unless stated otherwise, is from Official Fan Book 2.
